We will set a cap of 250 miles for the duration of the donation and will liaise with the driver to ensure this limit is not breached.

To help the community we ask you to help by removing your personal items and any clutter. We will clean your car at the start and end of your donation period using our car cleaning company Assured. They will clean your car directly at your property and we will make sure the cleaning times are convenient with you.

We have made a small change in approach to return cleans.

Our commitment to providing transport for key workers at minimal cost remains integral to our mission. Since our launch in March, Karshare has absorbed any and all costs involved to get key workers and services mobilised quickly. In order to extend this service beyond July 1st we are asking the drivers to take the car to get professionally cleaned before they return it to you.

We have let all owners know that if the car is returned in an unacceptable state our cleaning partners, Assured, will valet the car at your home.

We have designed a very simple, yet responsible way for the volunteer driver to pick up the car from your house:

  • Ahead of the pick up we ask you to complete a damage check on your vehicle.
  • Upon pick up we ask the driver to please knock at your door and retreat to a safe distance.
  • Once you open the door the driver will confirm specific details to you (provided ahead of this exchange.)
  • Once confirmed we ask you to leave the key on the doorstep and then return back inside.
  • The driver will take the key and complete the same damage checks that you have done to make sure everything is as it should be.
  • The return process will be the same in reverse and we confirm all details with you ahead of time to make sure you know what to do.

We’ll guarantee to return your car for you on time, but if for some reason we’re delayed we’ll be happy to provide an equivalent alternative for you in the meantime.

We’ll return your car with the same level of fuel as when you donated it, or charged.

Our insurance partner QBE will insure your car for the full donation period (from the  time we pick up the car to dropping it back). It’s a fully comprehensive insurance which covers replacement value up to £50,000. It includes cover up to a maximum liability of £20 million for third party property (and an additional £5m for third party costs). Please see the QBE Insurance Information here (PDF).

You just need to have an existing fully comprehensive insurance in place so that ours can then take over for the donation period.

We have made a small change in approach to driver insurance .

Our commitment to providing transport for key workers at minimal cost remains integral to our mission. Since our launch in March, Karshare has absorbed any and all costs involved to get key workers and services mobilised quickly. In order to extend this service beyond July 1st we are asking the drivers for a small contribution of just £5 a day towards insurance.

Not at all. Our insurance is specifically tailored to take over the full cover during the donation period.

Your own insurance policy won’t cover your car for sharing. This is why we provide insurance for the sharing “donation” period.  We will take care of this for you with our own insurers. You just need to have an existing fully comprehensive insurance in place so that ours can then take over for the donation period.

We do ask that you let your insurance company know as a courtesy.

While it’s rare that there’s any damage to your car, sometimes it does happen. It’s our job to make sure you’re inconvenienced as little as possible and you get a car back in the same condition you donated it . We will  take care of the claim and the repair via our own insurance policy (as yours isn’t affected) and will provide you a courtesy car for as long as the repair takes. We are only happy when your car is returned, and you are completely satisfied.

Yes – we’ll provide you a comparable replacement car straight away.

Our breakdown partner RAC will provide a recovery for any breakdown or puncture while it’s being used during the donation week.

If there are any problems after your donation we will get these fixed for you.

This will be carried by yourself and the renter with telephone guidance from the Karshare team for both parties. We will issue a simple 6 step process on the exact photographs to take which will be taken ahead of pick up and at drop off again. We will keep a record of all photo’s centrally to ensure all cars are returned in the same condition as they are picked up.”

In the worst case of your Vehicle being either written-off or stolen, we will supply a replacement vehicle until the insurance claim is resolved or the Vehicle found. We will ensure you are able to replace or be reunited with your vehicle.

Speeding fines are always sent to the car’s registered owner. You simply fill in the form to say it wasn’t you driving and send it to us. We will take care of it from there by inserting the driver’s details. The fine is promptly re-directed to the volunteer.

We verify every driver who will be using your car to help reach those in need. We carry out driving licence checks directly with the DVLA and all drivers’ identities are also verified.

Karmate is an application that monitors driving behaviour. Using telematics gives us the best possible arrangement with our insurer, QBE, to enable us to share cars within the community and provide you with the best insurance cover.

Karmate gives drivers access to information about their driving style to help them become safer behind the wheel. It does this by monitoring the following; Smooth driving (braking and accelerating), the speed of the car, fatigue (how long you drive in a single period), mobile use (phone usage when driving), and the time of day (day or night driving)

Karmate own and control the distribution of your data.

You (the driver), and Karshare will see your specific data. The Floow who process the data also have access to this data. They do not distribute this personal data to anyone. They do aggregate anonymised data to help improve their systems and product development.

Note: The police and other authorities can demand this data in the event of investigating a serious crime. This is obviously for the protection of all parties.
