Karshare is made possible by the people behind Car & Away and their local partners

Who we are?

Karshare has been made possible by the people behind Car & Away, an airport car sharing service which launched at London Gatwick in 2017, followed by Bristol airport in 2019. With a Trust Pilot rating of 4.9/5, the team at Car & Away are old hands at mobilising cars where they’re needed, and doing this with the highest levels of care and customer service.

Car Sharing is the future of car ownership

There are over a billion cars on the planet today, with 38 million in the UK alone. These cars sit idle on our streets and driveways 96% of the time. That’s a lot of wasted resources that could be put to better use.

There are already over 350,000 cars that are shared across Europe. The majority of this shared fleet is from private people like yourself who have recognised that we can enable a world where, through sharing our cars, we can do more with less.

The Karshare purpose

With each passing day during this Covid-19 crisis, it’s clear that the people who are self-isolating are finding it increasingly difficult to have access to food, essentials and even medicine – particularly the elderly and more vulnerable. And with the food banks and aid sources being stretched to their limit we can all try and do our bit to help.

With our dependency growing daily on NHS professionals and other key care workers it is vital that they can travel to and from work 24 hours a day with minimal exposure to potential infection.

Being in the business of car sharing, we recognised that we have the perfect platform and operations systems to help right now. Our simple goal is to mobilise a fleet of up to 10,000 cars – all donated by the generous (car owning) members of the community – for frontline workers to ensure they can maintain essential services for those who need the most care right now.

How we’re helping

We’re encouraging people who have a vehicle (perhaps more than one) that they can do without during this time of restricted movement to donate it for a minimum of one week. We’ll then making them available for NHS volunteers, charities, food banks, care workers or anyone else looking after people.

The Karshare community partners are checking donated vehicles for roadworthiness, carrying out a full valet and deep clean, insuring them and making them available for these frontline workers. At the end of the donated week, cars are fully cleaned again and returned back to their kind owners in the same condition they were picked up.

This Karshare Covid-19 community scheme is run as a not-for-profit initiative.. We’re inspired and delighted to be able to help all the great volunteers, care workers and NHS health professionals to do their critical work over these coming weeks.
